Individuals who complete their Master’s Degree Programme in Design and Construction Management successfully will have the opportunity to communicate more effectively with their colleagues who work in different administrative positions, or informatics sector, and work in collaboration with them. They will also have the chance to work more efficiently thanks to their effective communication skills and increased knowledge. The Master’s Degree Programme in Design and Construction Management, which will be conducted based on Information Technologies, is prepared with the aim of meeting the needs of managers and leaders with a modern perspective. Besides enabling students to gain the management skills required, the Programme also aims to enable all the engineers and architects working in the construction industry to gain the technological competences required for modern effective management.

Thesis Master’s Degree Programme in Earthquake-Prone Constructions and Urban Transformation

The extent of the sociological and economic damage caused by the earthquakes and other natural disasters occurs in our earthquake-prone country is considerable, which requires the research on reducing the risks of a disaster be carried out on an academic platform.

The research required for reducing the risks of a disaster focus on some crucial points such as creating a sustainable information infrastructure for earthquake, and passing on the information directly to the society.

Micro-zoning activities carried out to reduce the risks are vital to determine the risks of an earthquake or another disaster, evaluate the existing zoning plans, and formulate the strategies to be followed in city development plans.

Comprehensive studies would be necessary, through which the building stock analysis, and earthquake safety are scrutinised on a regional and local scale, particularly the settlements which are most likely to be damaged by an earthquake. Ministries, governor’s offices, municipalities, and special provincial administration are the organisations to undertake responsibility for evaluating the earthquake safety of buildings. These organisations also collaborate to evaluate the earthquake safety of the built-in and above-ground distribution systems as well as the building stock. Members of the professions who will participate in the evaluation process must be given trainings in reducing the risks of a disaster and the damages of earthquakes.

Considering the above-mentioned needs of our country which is under the earthquake risk, Beykent University’s Institute of Sciences is planning to open a ‘‘Thesis Master’s Degree Programme in Earthquake-Prone Constructions and Urban Transformation’’. The Programme aims to cultivate students into experts who will be employed in institutions and organisations which detect the earthquake-prone areas, and improve and apply the methods for reinforcing the constructions within the framework of Urban Transformation.
