LLM in Private Law (Compulsory Thesis) 

General Description

Foundation 

Beginning to provide postgraduate education in 2016, the Institute of Social Sciences aims to ensure specialisation, cultivate students with a global approach into scientists and lawyers who embrace the way of critical thinking, to put the research at the society’s disposal, and improve collaboration between all the social groups of the society. To this end, the courses of the LLM Programme in Public Law is offered to our students in detail based on their background knowledge acquired in their undergraduate programme.

Admission and Registration Requirements

To apply for the LLM Programme, candidates must hold a bachelor’s diploma, and submit their copy of the ALES (Academic Staff and Postgraduate Education Admission Exam) score, which must be at least 55 of the required weight (verbal or quantitative or equally weighted) by the Programme. The exam is centrally held by ÖSYM (Centre for Assessment, Selection, and Placement). 

Recognition of Prior Learning 

In accordance with Article 10 of the Regulation on Beykent University’s Postgraduate Education and Training, students are admitted to the programmes at Institutes through horizontal transfer provided that they meet the requirements for horizontal transfer, which are determined by the Academic Board upon the Institute Administrative Board’s decision, and the Head of the Department’s opinion. Students submit a letter of application by means of which they request to be exempt from certain courses within the same postgraduate programme of Beykent University as the courses of the postgraduate programme of another university they had enrolled in before. Their application including the course contents and transcripts will be evaluated upon the Institute Administrative Board’s decision, considering the opinion of the Head of the Department, and the Board will decide which courses the students took will be awarded credits for the courses they must take within the Programme they have recently enrolled. The courses students took at the university they attended may be recognised as the elective or compulsory courses with the Institute Administrative Board’s approval. 

Competence Requirements and Rules 

3 years, 2 terms in each year, 15 weeks in each term, 120 ECTS in total.

Programme Description

The Programme enables individuals to conduct scientific studies regarding the solutions to legal problems and disputes. Within this framework, the Programme offers courses including the major fields of Public Law such as Commercial Law, Law of Obligations, Labour Law, Code of Civil Procedure, Civil Code, Maritime Law, Insurance Law, Labour and Social Security Law, and Enforcement and Bankruptcy Law. In each term, students are offered courses twice the required number of the compulsory courses. The students select the courses they are offered according to the above-mentioned fields. Thus, they are enabled to work on the fields they wish and specialise on those fields. Thesis advisors are assigned to the students by the end of the first term to guide them in each stage of their Master’s Degree Programme. 

Learning Outcomes

The Programme enables the students to:

  1. Specialise in Private Law.
  2. Gain a critical perspective. 
  3. Improve their skills in conducting scientific works.
  4. Improve their efficiency in solving problems encountered regarding Private Law. 
  5. Produce works to be published in the field of Private Law.
  6. Improve their skills of collecting, categorising, interpreting, and announcing data in respect of Public Law. 
  7. Acquire proficiency in scientific thinking and solving ethical issues in respect of Private Law. 

Career Opportunities

The Programme enables students to specialise in Private Law. In this way, they can apply for a PhD Programme, and pursue an academic career, or work in other areas putting the knowledge they gained into their professional life.
