Beykent University’s Institute of Graduate Studies offers a Non-thesis Master’s Programme (English) (Distance Education) in Economics and Finance in accordance with the Council of Higher Education’s approval dated ******. The programme aims to encourage candidates who are working in the sector to achieve career goals by equipping them with global knowledge in the field. Additionally, it aims to educate prospective managers and researchers who will improve their knowledge of analytical techniques as well as analytical thinking skills and follow the latest developments in the field. The programme offers English-medium instruction.

ADMISSION AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree to apply for the master’s programme. The ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Exam) is not required for non-thesis master’s degree programmes (The amendment published in the Official Gazette no. 30417 of 10.05.2018). Applicants must have a score of 55 or above from a central foreign language exam, which must be recognised by the Council of Higher Education and held in a foreign language other than the applicant’s native language, or an equivalent score from an international foreign language exam recognised by the Centre for Assessment, Selection and Placement. Foreign language proficiency is not required for international applicants who have graduated from an English-medium programme.

Recognition of Prior Learning

In accordance with Article 10 of Beykent University’s Regulation on Graduate Education, students are admitted to the graduate programmes at the Institute through change of major upon Institute Administrative Board’s decision and the head of department’s approval if they meet the requirements set by the Institute Academic Board for change of major. Students submit a letter of application requesting exemption from certain courses at Beykent University's graduate programmes that they have previously taken and passed at another university's graduate programme. Their application for course articulation and transcripts will be evaluated by the Institute Administrative Board and the head of department. The courses students took at a receiving university they attended as part of an exchange programme may be recognised as elective or compulsory courses with approval of the Institute Administrative Board.

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

Non-thesis: 1 and a half years (maximum 3 terms), 2 terms in 1 year, 15 weeks in 1 term, 90 ECTS in total. Being successful in 10 courses and the term project.

  5. Have knowledge of quantitative and qualitative economic methods that will help the assessment of propositions from various economic theories on a practical matter to contribute to the resolution of current economic issues.
  6. Understand the common and distinctive characteristics of markets, the industry as well as market regulations and policies.

  9. Use the knowledge acquired in the field during their studies to solve daily economic issues.

  12. Have social, scientific, and ethical values in the processes of gathering, interpreting, announcing, and applying of economic and financial knowledge.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the program will have a solid knowledge of national and international finance, will be able to apply their theoretical knowledge, understand the interaction between global commercial processes, international economics, and finance, as well as develop various visions. They will also be able to manage today’s global economic instruments, such as short-term and long-term debt instruments, stocks, and financial derivative instruments.

Upward Transfer

Students who have graduated from thesis programmes may apply for doctoral or equivalent (EQF level 8) programmes. In accordance with the Council of Higher Education’s Regulation on Graduate Education dated 20.04.2016, those who have graduated from a non-thesis programme will be unable to pursue a doctoral degree.
