Computer Engineering (Distance Education)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Foundation 

Beykent University’s Department of Computer Engineering offers a Non-Thesis Master’s Programme (Distance Education) in Computer Engineering in accordance with the Council of Higher Education’s approval dated ******.

The programme aims to educate prospective engineers who are equipped with in-depth knowledge and skills in computer engineering as well as competitive skills that will allow them to compete on a global scale. It offers Turkish-medium instruction.

Admission and Registration Requirements

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree to apply for the master’s programme. The ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Exam) is not required for non-thesis master’s degree programmes (The amendment published in the Official Gazette no. 30417 of 10.05.2018).  

Recognition of Prior Learning

In accordance with Article 10 of Beykent University’s Regulation on Graduate Education, students are admitted to the graduate programmes at the Institute through change of major upon Institute Administrative Board’s decision and the head of department’s approval if they meet the requirements set by the Institute Academic Board for change of major. Students submit a letter of application requesting exemption from certain courses at Beykent University's graduate programmes that they have previously taken and passed at another university's graduate programme. Their application for course articulation and transcripts will be evaluated by the Institute Administrative Board and the head of department. The courses students took at a receiving university they attended as part of an exchange programme may be recognised as elective or compulsory courses with approval of the Institute Administrative Board. 

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

1 and a half years (maximum 3 terms), 2 terms in 1 year, 15 weeks in 1 term, 90 ECTS in total. Being successful in 10 courses and the term project.

In parallel with the changing and evolving needs in Turkey and the world, we enable our students to:

1. Acquire knowledge in computer engineering, and gain background information and experience, as well as the ability to put their knowledge into practice.

4. Embrace the concept of lifelong learning to keep up with the changing and evolving world.

5. Present their academic works on national and international platforms.

The programme follows the evolution of technology, and focuses on software development methodologies, artificial intelligence, data mining, computer graphics, machine learning, computer networks and security, and computer vision.

Additionally, students can study independently or in groups before and after the classes. As part of the opportunities available at the University, we encourage academic research by providing access to subscribed databases and libraries. We provide academic advising to our master’s degree students on challenges they encounter at their current jobs.

We ensure that students improve their effective report writing and presentation skills by allowing them to write a report and a presentation on a certain topic. Students are encouraged to discuss certain academic subjects during classes, helping us to assess their level of academic proficiency and provide guidance on how to improve their knowledge. 

Essential Learning Outcomes

Graduates of the programme can work as system supervisors in charge of system design and operation, database or network administrators, leaders in software teams, in large- or medium-sized public institutions, banks, telecommunication companies, or in the information technology department of a private company. Additionally, they will be able to:

1. Apply theoretical and practical knowledge to solve problems in computer engineering.

2. Develop and use modern techniques and tools necessary for the analysis and solving of complex problems encountered in the field, and effectively use information technologies.

3. Collect data, analyse and interpret results to evaluate problems.

4. Work effectively in disciplinary or multidisciplinary teams, and take responsibility.

5. Acknowledge the necessity of lifelong learning; acquire the ability to follow the scientific and technological developments and improve themselves continually.

6. Follow ethical standards, and have professional and ethical responsibility.

7. Have knowledge of standards applied in computer engineering practices.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the Computer Engineering Master’s Programme can work in a variety of public institutions or private companies such as major appliance manufacturers, telecommunication system manufacturers and operators, internet service providers, the defence system and the automotive industry. Their responsibilities mainly include software and algorithm development as well as processing, transfer, acquisition, and storage of data, audio, and video, design of electronic devices and systems, antennas and electromagnetic field and wave applications, and the physics of semiconductor electronic elements.

Graduates who gain experience in the above-mentioned fields can work as managers in these sectors and even start up their own companies.

Upward Transfer

In accordance with the Council of Higher Education’s Regulation on Graduate Education dated 20.04.2016, students who have graduated from a non-thesis programme cannot pursue a doctoral degree.
