Admission and Registration Requirements

To apply for the Master’s Degree Programme, candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree. The copy of the ALES score is not required for the admission to the master’s degree programmes of conservatoires or the departments of Fine Arts.

Recognition of Prior Learning

In accordance with Article 10 of the Regulation on Beykent University’s Postgraduate Education and Training, students are admitted to the programmes at Institutes through horizontal transfer provided that they meet the requirements for horizontal transfer, which are determined by the Academic Board upon the Institute Administrative Board’s decision, and the Head of the Department’s opinion. Students submit a letter of application by means of which they request to be exempt from certain courses within the same postgraduate programme of Beykent University as the courses of the postgraduate programme of another university they had enrolled in before. Their application including the course contents and transcripts will be evaluated upon the Institute Administrative Board’s decision, considering the opinion of the Head of the Department, and the Board will decide which courses the students took will be awarded credits for the courses they must take within the Programme they have recently enrolled. The courses students took at the university they attended may be recognised as the elective or compulsory courses with the Institute Administrative Board’s approval.

Thesis Programme: 3 years, 2 terms in each year, 15 weeks in each term, 120 ECTS in total.

Programme Objectives

The Programme aims to Enable students who hold a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and Design and Communication, and are likely to work efficiently both on national and global platforms an opportunity for a master’s degree in their fields in order that they can advance in their careers in a domestic and foreign competitive environment. Within this scope, the Programme aims to educate individuals who define the concepts based on advanced theoretical and practical knowledge regarding the field of communication, and are able to produce self-renewing solutions to design, and combine the multimedia dynamics with creativity in these days when it is becoming easier to access information and technology.

Learning Outcomes

Student of the Master’s Degree Programme of the Department of Communication and Design

 will be able to:

  • Define the concepts based on advanced theoretical and or applied knowledge regarding the field of communication.
  • Use computer programmes and communication technologies.
  • Combines the theories with the practice to benefit from these in applying design practices.
  • Have knowledge of cultures and art.
  • Have the aesthetical awareness. Within this scope, they are able to combine the aesthetic sense with the elements and the principles of design to produce original works.
  • Improve their skills of multidimensional perception, thinking, designing, and practice.
  • Transform abstract and concrete concepts into creative thoughts, and innovative and unique works with the help of technology.
  • Abide by the social, scientific, cultural, and ethical values while collecting, interpreting, applying information, and announcing its results regarding their field.

Career Opportunities

Students of the Master’s Degree Programme in Communication and Design receive an education which is diversified and enriched with the examples of practising the theoretical information regarding the field, and they acquire information on the fields they are interested in or would like to specialise in.

Within this framework, our graduates can work as designers, copywriters, creative directors, editors, etc. in institutions and organisations where creative activities are carried out, institutions involved in Communication, agencies, visual and print media organs (newspapers, magazines, television, internet publishing); and they can work as designers in various departments, or pursue an academic career. 

CONTENT

Communication and Design Art Department, Master's program is two years. It is expected that students will complete the course load of at least 21 credits during the first annual training period. Once students complete the program's credits and their second year advanced work, it is expected that their thesis work will at least be an exploratory research or innovation.
