General Description

As the whole world, Turkey is experiencing a rapid social change, and a period with a vast accumulation of knowledge. This change causes mental problems, individualism, isolation, alienation, and communication problems among people. Hence, qualified employees who will serve the society, are competent and skilled in their profession, able to make decisions independently, solve problems, produce information, and have the required skills to make research and publish their research, and who place a high value on ethics, and have a high sensitivity. However, the number of clinical psychologists who have all the above-mentioned features is insufficient in Turkey. The Master’s Degree Programme in Clinical Psychology aims to cultivate students into qualified experts, and meet the requirements for experts in Clinical Psychology.

Admission and Registration Requirements

To apply for the Thesis Master’s Degree Programme, candidates must hold a bachelor’s diploma, and submit their copy of the ALES (Academic Staff and Postgraduate Education Admission Exam) score, which must be at least 55 of the required weight (verbal or quantitative or equally weighted) by the Programme. The exam is centrally held by ÖSYM (Centre for Assessment, Selection, and Placement).

Recognition of Prior Learning

In accordance with Article 10 of the Regulation on Beykent University’s Postgraduate Education and Training, students are admitted to the programmes at Institutes through horizontal transfer provided that they meet the requirements for horizontal transfer, which are determined by the Academic Board upon the Institute Administrative Board’s decision, and the Head of the Department’s opinion. Students submit a letter of application by means of which they request to be exempt from certain courses within the same postgraduate programme of Beykent University as the courses of the postgraduate programme of another university they had enrolled in before. Their application including the course contents and transcripts will be Head of the Department, and the Board will decide which courses the students took will be awarded credits for the courses they must take within the Programme they have recently enrolled. The courses students took at the university they attended may be recognised as the elective or compulsory courses with the Institute Administrative Board’s approval.

3 years, 2 terms in each year, 15 weeks in each term, 120 ECTS in total

Programme Description

The Programme aims to ensure that human thoughts and behaviours through information, methods, and techniques that the Psychology produced, and cultivate students into clinical psychologists who are well-educated and qualified, and adopt the ethical principles a psychological therapy. It also aims to make contribution to the literature in Psychology through students’ scientific studies.

Our course programme involves the courses through which theories and application methods in Psychopathology of children, adolescents, and adults in consideration with today’s and future requirements. Besides the seminar courses, students are encouraged to carry out academic studies. In addition, they must complete their compulsory 10-day traineeship to become eligible for graduation.

Once students completed the Master’s Degree Programme, they will have to opportunity to work in hospitals, counselling centres, and clinics where they can carry out clinical applications.

Learning Outcomes

We aim that graduates of Beykent University’s Master’s Degree Programme in Clinical Psychology will be able to:

  • Develop scientific thinking.
  • Plan, carry out, and publish scientific research.
  • Evaluate the scientific papers, and communicate with their colleagues regarding scientific and ethical issues.
  • Learn about principles of ethics, and relations with their colleagues.
  • Learn the fundamental theories and techniques of psychotherapy.
  • Learn about the holistic approach, teamwork, and community-based service.
  • Make psychopathological and psychological evaluation.

Learn the principles of therapeutic interviewing, and conduct a therapeutic interview.
