Health Institutions Management (Distance Learning)

Foundation
The Department of Business Administration of Beykent University’s Institute of Graduate Studies offers a Non-thesis Master’s Degree Programme in Health Institutions Management (Distance Learning) in accordance with the Council of Higher Education’s (YÖK) approval dated 31.03.2014. The Programme aims to educate prospective healthcare managers who have both theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in management necessary to analyse and solve business problems in the health sector. The Programme also aims to educate prospective qualified healthcare managers who have knowledge of techniques and methods for management processes relating to the identification and development of our country’s healthcare institutions, and healthcare operations. The Programme offers Turkish-medium instruction.

The ALES (Academic Staff and Postgraduate Education Admission Exam) is not required for non-thesis master’s degree programmes. (The Amendment Published in the Official Gazette No.  30417 of 10.05.2018) To apply for the master’s degree programme, candidates must have a bachelor’s diploma, and provide a copy of the ALES (Academic Staff and Postgraduate Education Admission Exam, administrated centrally by the Centre for Assessment, Selection and Placement) score which must be at least 55 points in the required type of score (verbal, quantitative or equal weight) or provide a copy of an equivalent score of Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), which are internationally recognised by the Council of Higher Education. The Senate will decide on what percentage of a candidate’s ALES score will be taken into consideration during admission and evaluation processes (The percentage set by the Senate must be a minimum of 50%.). However, the Institute may admit students to a master’s degree programme solely based on their ALES scores. The minimum score obtained in an ALES equivalent exam which is recognised by the Council of Higher Education may be increased upon the Senate’s decision.

Recognition of Prior Learning
In accordance with Article 10 of Beykent University’s Regulation on Graduate Education and Training, students are admitted to the programmes at the Institute through change of major upon Institute Administrative Board’s decision, and Head of the Department’s approval if they meet the requirements for change of major which are set out by the Institute Academic Board. Students submit a letter of application through which they request to be exempt from some courses of Beykent University’s graduate programmes which they had taken and passed at their previous university’s graduate programme. Their application concerning course contents and transcripts will be evaluated upon Institute Administrative Board’s decision, and considering the opinion of Head of the Department. Those courses students have taken at the receiving university they attended as part of an exchange programme may be recognised as elective or compulsory courses with the approval of the Institute Administrative Board.

Non-Thesis: 1 and a half years (maximum 3 terms), 2 terms in 1 year, 15 weeks in 1 term, 90 ECTS in total. Being successful in 10 courses and the term project.

The Programme aims to educate prospective qualified healthcare managers who have the knowledge and skills necessary to properly implement the concepts, theories, principles, models, and techniques relating to planning, organising, management and monitoring of the national healthcare system in order to improve the healthcare infrastructure in Turkey. The Programme offers an opportunity for a modern and global distance education in Health Institutions Management to the prospective managers of health institutions.

Programme Outcomes

Students:

  1. Conduct research and make analyses regarding the matters that health institutions need to put research results into practice. 
  2. Design, carry out and supervise business processes.
  3. Have the knowledge and skills to achieve and increase standards necessary to improve corporate quality. 
  4. Make the necessary job descriptions and analyses of health institutions to determine the required need for the human and material resources, and determine the resource allocations. 
  5. Establish the necessary financial, accounting, and budgeting systems, and ensure that they function. 
  6. Determine the necessary marketing strategies, and ensure that they work.
  7. Understand the scientific status of the discipline, and gain a perspective to carry out interdisciplinary academic studies. 
  8. Acquire proficiency in theory and practice to identify problems, put forward arguments, and improve visions on academic and sectoral platforms. 

Career Opportunities
Graduates of the Programme can work as a manager/assistant manager, production planning and control supervisor, or system supervisor in hospitals and health institutions. They can also work as research assistants, lecturers, and faculty members at relevant departments of universities.

Upward Transfer
In accordance with the Council of Higher Education’s Regulation on Graduate Education and Training dated 20.04.2016, students who have graduated from a non-thesis programme cannot pursue a doctoral degree.
