Admission and Registration Requirements

To apply for the Thesis Master’s Degree Programme, candidates must hold a bachelor’s diploma, and submit their copy of the ALES (Academic Staff and Postgraduate Education Admission Exam) score, which must be at least 55 of the required weight (verbal or quantitative or equally weighted) by the Programme. The exam is centrally held by ÖSYM (Centre for Assessment, Selection, and Placement). The ALES is not required for the non-thesis master’s degree programme. 

Recognition of Prior Learning 

In accordance with Article 10 of the Regulation on Beykent University’s Postgraduate Education and Training, students are admitted to the programmes at Institutes through horizontal transfer provided that they meet the requirements for horizontal transfer, which are determined by the Academic Board upon the Institute Administrative Board’s decision, and the Head of the Department’s opinion. Students submit a letter of application by means of which they request to be exempt from certain courses within the same postgraduate programme of Beykent University as the courses of the postgraduate programme of another university they had enrolled in before. Their application including the course contents and transcripts will be Head of the Department, and the Board will decide which courses the students took will be awarded credits for the courses they must take within the Programme they have recently enrolled. The courses students took at the university they attended may be recognised as the elective or compulsory courses with the Institute Administrative Board’s approval. 

Competence Requirements and Rules 

Non-Thesis Programme: 1 and a half years, 2 terms in each year, 15 weeks in each term, 90 ECTS in total.

Thesis Programme: 3 years, 2 terms in each year, 15 weeks in each term, 120 ECTS in total.

Programme Description

Thesis Master’s Programme in Finance of the Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Business Administration offers a higher education with its qualified academic staff, and aims to cultivate students into experts who have competence in Finance, are able to think analytically, and adapt themselves to a financially globalising environment. Students who are enrolled in the non-thesis programme must pass 10 courses successfully, which makes 90 ECTS credits in total, and students who are enrolled in the thesis programme must pass 8 courses, which makes 120 ECTS credits in total. Courses take place on Taksim Campus, which has a well-stocked library, wireless internet, study and recreation areas, and is near to underground and bus stations, and the funicular. The Programme offers a Turkish-medium education.

Learning Outcomes 

Students:

  • Acquire the knowledge, concepts, and theories of Finance. 
  • Have knowledge of the financial processes within the business organisations, and an analytical vision which enables them to determine problems, and the steps to be taken. 
  • Analyse the financial dimensions of various projects in detail, and make reports to demonstrate that the relevant projects could be carried out. 
  • Acquire competence in drawing up, tracking and evaluating a budget.
  • Gain knowledge and a strategy of the use of current financial instruments. 
  •  Make contributions to the approaches of strategic management in accordance with the classical and modern theories of Finance. 
  • Acquire proficiency in the theory and practice to identify problems, put forward arguments, and improve visions on academic and sectoral platforms. 
  • Acquire the competence in using and customising the information technologies which are common in Finance. 
  • Have a deeper understanding of social benefit in theory and practice within the framework of Finance.
  • Comprehend the scientific status of Finance, and gain a perspective to carry out interdisciplinary academic studies. 

Career Opportunities

Having a comprehensive knowledge of National and International Finance, graduates of the Programme will be able to put theoretical knowledge into practice, comprehend the interaction between the global commercial procedures, and international economic and financial aspects, and to improve visions. In addition, they will be able to manage and use today’s global economic instruments, short-term and long-term debt instruments, stocks, and derivative financial instruments.
