Admission and Registration Requirements

To apply for the Thesis Master’s Degree Programme, candidates must hold a bachelor’s diploma, and submit their copy of the ALES (Academic Staff and Postgraduate Education Admission Exam) score, which must be at least 55 of the required weight (verbal or quantitative or equally weighted) by the Programme. The exam is centrally held by ÖSYM (Centre for Assessment, Selection, and Placement). The ALES is not required for the non-thesis master’s degree programme.

Recognition of Prior Learning

In accordance with Article 10 of the Regulation on Beykent University’s Postgraduate Education and Training, students are admitted to the programmes at Institutes through horizontal transfer provided that they meet the requirements for horizontal transfer, which are determined by the Academic Board upon the Institute Administrative Board’s decision, and the Head of the Department’s opinion. Students submit a letter of application by means of which they request to be exempt from certain courses within the same postgraduate programme of Beykent University as the courses of the postgraduate programme of another university they had enrolled in before. Their application including the course contents and transcripts will be Head of the Department, and the Board will decide which courses the students took will be awarded credits for the courses they must take within the Programme they have recently enrolled. The courses students took at the university they attended may be recognised as the elective or compulsory courses with the Institute Administrative Board’s approval.

Competence Requirements and Rules

Non-Thesis Programme: 1 and a half years, 2 terms in each year, 15 weeks in each term, 90 ECTS in total.

Thesis Programme: 3 years, 2 terms in each year, 15 weeks in each term, 120 ECTS in total.

Programme Description

Thesis Master’s Programme in Business Administration of the Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Business Administration offers a higher education with its qualified academic staff. The Programme is for individuals who can work efficiently at the administrative departments of production and service businesses in the public or private sector, and aims to enable students to acquire the skills of analytical, fast, and multi-dimensional thinking, and the competences of making strategic decisions, and tackling issues with a global view. Students who are enrolled in the non-thesis programme must pass 10 courses successfully, which makes 90 ECTS credits in total, and students who are enrolled in the thesis programme must pass 8 courses, which makes 120 ECTS credits in total. Courses take place on Taksim Campus, which has a well-stocked library, wireless internet, study and recreation areas, and is near to underground and bus stations, and the funicular. The Programme offers a Turkish-medium education.

Learning Outcomes

Students:

  • Have knowledge of the theories regarding the field of Business Administration.
  • Approach the Business Administration with a strategic perspective, and have knowledge of the concept of planning-oriented philosophy of administration.
  • Have the theoretical knowledge to make quick and optimal decisions in parallel with the changing environmental conditions.
  • Evaluate the business activities on a global scale and make the business organisation global.
  • Make organisational analyses and designs with a modern perspective on administration, and comprehend and have skills of explaining and practising the Business Administration’s functions of planning, organising, managing, and controlling.
  • Gain a perspective to put the teachings into practice specific to the fields under the major of Business Administration such as Human Resources Management, Organisational Behaviour, Change, and Information Management.
  • Acquire competence in detecting and solving the problems occurred in general or functional order of a business organisation.
  • Have the skills of expert managing both in theory and practice enabling them to identify problems, put forward arguments and improve visions on academic and sectoral platforms.
  • Have knowledge of market research, information systems, consumer behaviours, strategic marketing, global markets, product and services strategies, product life cycle, pricing, and supply chain to maintain the business in the process of globalisation.
  • Gain a perspective enabling them to set forth the vision, mission, and organisational design of a business organisation in parallel with the business organisation’s mission, vision, and sources.
  • Make designs of business processes with high efficiency in parallel with the opportunities the business organisation has.
  • Make the required changes for the organisational structure pursuant to the changing environmental conditions.
  • Establish channels of communication within and outside of a business organisation to create an effective and coherent organisational structure.
  • Comprehend the scientific status of Business Administration, and gain a perspective enabling them to carry out interdisciplinary academic studies.

The graduates of the Programme can work at various levels of administrative departments of a business organisation in the public or private sector. Stakeholders in interaction with the Department of Business Administration can be summarised as follows: private institutions and organisations, various public institutions and organisations affiliated to various ministries, universities, research institutions, and institutes.
